Clinical Traineeship Program (Post-PG)

Clinical Traineeship 3 months

Hope Trust is pleased to announce a 3-months traineeship for early career psychologists. This is an advanced level traineeship where you will receive simultaneous comprehensive training, supervision and clinical exposure.

What is a traineeship?

Trainees will receive hands-on training in a clinical setting and learn to work within an interdisciplinary team of mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, counsellors, clinical psychologists, and other mental health professionals. Candidates will be assigned independent casework along with ongoing supervision.

What do our trainees look like?

Candidates would have a full-time Master’s level degree in psychology/counselling. They should be driven, motivated and hard-working, along with the ability to work within a team. No prior experience is required.

What do we provide our trainees?

  • Hands-on, comprehensive training in clinical intake, assessments and evidence-based psychological interventions for various mental health conditions
  • Ongoing peer supervision and discussion
  • Psychological testing resources and comprehensive training in evidence-based measures
  • CME (continuing medical education): ongoing training opportunities to upgrade your skills within the organisation. Our ongoing workshops and training programs are freely accessible for our trainees and full-time employees.

By the end of the training, they will be able to identify the client or group’s psychological, emotional and behavioural needs, facilitate a structured therapy plan addressing their needs, administer the necessary psychometric assessments, and identify and initiate referrals when necessary.

What happens after the training is complete?

Based on the number of open positions, trainees who complete the program and wish to continue with the organisation may be offered a full-time role as a counselling psychologist at Hope Trust, depending on the number of positions available. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Program Structure

The program has three core components:

(1) Direct therapy (2) Supervision (3) Case Evaluations

Direct therapy

Most trainees spend their time providing supervised psychological services to clients/patients. These services primarily include clinical intake, case history taking, psychological assessments and evaluation, individual interventions, psychotherapy, and outreach supervision. We expect our trainees to provide these services to a diverse patient population with various presenting problems. All direct therapy delivery also requires the completion of administrative tasks, such as writing psychological reports and progress notes.

Supervision

Trainees receive a minimum of 2 hours of individual supervision per week. Our supervisors work collaboratively with trainees to foster the development and refinement of skills and competency in research, ethical and legal standards, individual and cultural diversity, professional values, attitudes, and behaviours, communications and interpersonal skills, assessment, interventions, supervision and meta-competency (evaluating and developing one’s own competency). Candidates will be assigned to a senior therapist on a weekly rotational basis.

Case Evaluations

Interns must present a case presentation at the end of every week. In addition, all interns must complete a final case presentation for the overall internship seminar program. Additionally, all trainees will be evaluated by their assigned supervisors at the end of the program
